Defence Fuels Bulldogs as Reserves Win at Hawks

Updated: Nov 25, 2019

Bury St. Edmunds Bulldogs Reserves travelled to Huntingdon, beating the Hawks Reserves 58-44, to claim their first away win in the Cambs league this season.

Bury started the game strongly keeping the Hawks scoreless for the first half of the first quarter. Dave Wise and Luca Beadle connected on early fast breaks as a result of a strong start on the defensive glass.

The Bulldogs then allowed the Hawks back into the game in the second and third quarters but managed to tighten up defensively and stop the Hawks run. Ivan Cheng had a good first game for the club, scoring his first points on his debut, while the undoubted highlight of the game was a monster two-handed dunk from Ernest Isokpehi as Bury closed the game out in the fourth quarter.

Jay Trye led a balanced Bulldogs attack

"I'm pleased with the win, although we can play much better," said Coach Glenn Collins. "We were without our top scorer tonight and it showed at times. On the plus side it gave some of our younger players a chance to show their ability, and they did well."

Bury's top scorers were Jay Trye with 12 and Luca Beadle with 11.

The Bulldogs now look forward to a home game against East Cambs Warriors at Skyliner Sports Centre on 24th November.
